the idea that literally kept me up tonight – I lay down to sleep hours ago

Instead of something like this, where a very strong swing (though obviously not this perfect in life) is seen between mania and depression, I would like to suggest a possible alternate interpretation.

As I have sketched in the second chart, in certain potentially creative people a milder cyclothymia might be felt and interpreted as a more severe bipolar disorder if a correlating cycle in their ability to relate to their own emotions and the world and people around them existed, intensifying the activity of their mirror neurons and associative centers of their brains beyond the levels seen in average people and perhaps even creative individuals without bipolar symptoms.
